3. What happened to the Greeks And Persians Just Before The Great War Between Them The Ionian Revolt: Persians conquered the city state of Ionia. The Ionians called to their mother country, Athens, for help. The Athenians made perhaps their worst strategic mistake ever! They sent soldiers to burn Ionia to the ground. They succeeded with ease. This angered the Persians as they built some of the most sacred temples at the Ionia, only to find out that all their efforts have gone to waste. for help. 4. The Battle At Marathon Why did the Persians come? 1. They were angry that the Greeks burnt down the city of Ionia. 2. They wanted to expand their empire as they were very confident after conquering the mighty kingdom of Babylonia 3. They were very sure they will triumph over the Greeks

5. The Battle Of Marathon The Persians arrived on boats. Altogether, there were 300, 000 Persians sent to fight the Persians. Only about 7,000 Greeks were left to defend the Greece. The Persians came swiftly in their boats. The Spartans began their defense…

6. The Persians came out of their boats. The Greeks weren’t afraid and fought in their discipline ‘failings’. They were supposed to have a shield wall protecting them at the front. They stop the Persians’ charge. Now, they launched spear attacks from above their shields. They killed many Persians and the Persians could not attack them because of the shield wall.

7. The Greeks also had superior warriors and superior weapons. Their armor was so thick that a spear could hardly pierce it. The shield was so hard that not arrow could pierce through it and it was also strong and flexible. The only disadvantage is that the weapons were heavy. In the end, the Greeks won and chased the Persians back to the own empire.

9. The Persians Came Back Because Of.. REVENGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

10. In the first two days, the Greeks were able to hold off the mighty Persians with its discipline failings and killed all Persians on the battlefield. Off the coast at the Artemesium Straits, the Greek navy easily hold off the massive but weak Persian Navy. The mood in the Persian camp was gloomy…. Persians ….Cry Baby lol…

11. King Xerxes He was feeling sad as…. The Persians were running out of food supplies. The Persians could not find a way past the Greeks. The Persians could not be losing more and more soldiers every day.

12. In the end.. A Greek traitor named Ephialtes betrayed the Greeks by revealing a small goat path that leads to the rear of the Persian army. The Persians used the road. The defenders, the Phocians, had retreated to defend their own state instead.

13. King Leonidas ordered the retreat of about 7000 Greeks soldiers. Those left behind were about 1000 Thebians,who volunteered to fight on, and the 300 Spartans. They fought valiantly against the Persians, knowing that death was coming to them as the Persians have flanked them. In the end, many Persians and all of the Greeks soldiers were killed either by the enemies or arrow fire.

14. What can we learn from this war The Greeks, especially the Spartans, bravery and resilience. They were very patriotic and fought to their death for the love of their country. Also, this paved way for democracy in many ways.( You can find it out yourself, it is a long story) This war will be remembered for a long time…
