Persian Wars (490-479 BC) Previously, there had been very little cooperation between different Greek city- states, but... Persian Empire threatened all Greek city-states.

Greek League (490-474 BC) 1.Unified 31 different Greek city-states against Persia. 2.Sparta was chosen to lead & Athens provided navy & much of the wealth. 3.Cooperation led to defeat of Persian Empire. Thermopylae (480 BC)

Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC) Greek Civil War: Several Greek city-states (including Sparta) united to fight Athens. Eventually the Athenians were defeated

One Macedonian King Conquered several Greek city-states. Forced all to accept him as their leader by 337 BC. He was murdered in 336 BC. Philip II (382-336 BC)
