City University OSCEs Year 1 Formative OSCE 12 stations – prior to 1 st placement Year 1- Summative OSCE Hand washing, Apron & Gloves, MRSA swab Year 2 – New OSCE planned Year 3 – Teaching a junior student a skill or aspect of care
2
Formative OSCE Good Performance is confident, fluent and accurate. There may be some minor mistakes or omissions but these are quickly corrected without any prompting. Good technique and correct reading/result was obtained. Satisfactory Performance lacks fluency but your technique is satisfactory. There were several mistakes or omissions but these were recognised and corrected, although not always straightaway. May not have achieved the correct reading/result at first attempt but recognises this and would repeat the procedure
3
Formative OSCE More work needed Performance is slow and lack co-ordination (or swift but inaccurate) with lots of mistakes or omissions. The correct reading/result may be obtained but this appears to be by chance. You appear muddled about what you are doing and why. If this were a summative OSCE you would have failed. Much more work needed Performance is poor with many mistakes or omissions. You have got some of the technique right but you do not appear to understand what you are doing or why. The correct reading/result may be obtained but this appears to be by chance. If this were a summative OSCE you would have failed.
