29 Phases of the Moon One revolution of the Moon around the Earth is called a lunar month. The moon rotates at the same speed that it revolves. The same side of the moon is always facing the Earth. We see sunlight reflected from the Moon. The shape of the moon is the result of the angle the Moon makes with the sun as viewed from earth
