1 Post-9/11 GI Bill Eligibility – EVERYONE with aggregate active duty service on or after 9/11 – Honorable service – ROTC scholarship / Academy grads (after 4 and 5 years, respectively) – MGIB participants can convert – VEAPers – Vietnam era rollover to MGIB – MGIB disenrollees – ECLRP participants after first enlistment – NCS enlistees

2 Post-9/11 GI Bill Service – Honorable At least 90 days (after basic and tech training) At least 30 days if separated for disability

3 Post-9/11 GI Bill Benefit for a Veteran – Tuition & fees not to exceed the in-state undergraduate rate of the most expensive State college or university in the state where veteran attends school Paid directly to school by the Veterans Administration – Annual $1000 stipend (pro-rated by term) for books & supplies – Monthly housing stipend Based on E5 w/ dependents BAH School location determines rate Not payable if enrolled in distance learning program – Half time or less – Tuition & fees, pro-rated annual stipend, no housing stipend

4 Post-9/11 GI Bill Benefit for Active Duty Personnel – Tuition & fees based on course tuition – Top Up – Does not pay annual or housing stipends Other Benefits – Tutorial assistance for courses in which enrolled, max $1200 per year – One exam for license or certification, max $2000 – One time $500 travel/ relocation allowance; limited to specific rural areas – Yellow Ribbon program where benefits are supplemented through school scholarship program; program not at all schools

5 Post-9/11 GI Bill Service Requirement – 100% -- 36 or more months; 30 days if service connected disability – 90% -- 30-35 months – 80% -- 24-29 months – 70% -- 18-23 months* – 60% -- 12-17 months* – 50% -- 6-11 months* – 40% -- 90 days-5 months* – *Asterisk*: Time toward service requirement begins after tech school

7 Post-9/11 GI Bill Transfer Benefits to Spouse and / or Children – Eligibility & Enrollment Anticipate to open program Aug 09 Must opt for Post-9 / 11 GI Bill ONLY available to active duty and SelRes Have served six years & incur four-year commitment Can transfer max 36 months

8 Post-9/11 GI Bill Benefits Transfer – Spouse Benefit Same as the Sponsor’s status Can use benefit upon election to transfer 15-year delimiting date – Child(ren’s) Benefit Same as a veteran regardless of sponsor’s status HS diploma or 18-25 yrs of age No delimiting date

9 Post-9/11 GI Bill – And… Not marital property Benefit continues if sponsor dies Joint liability between sponsor and student to repay failed and dropped course(s) or if sponsor reneges on commitment Coming attractions – DVA is developing policy – Conversion process to Post-9/11 from MGIB is TBD – More to come….
