2 How to apply – PGT programmes Choose your course Check the entry requirements Complete the online application form Pay the application assessment fee Provide your supporting documents A decision will normally be made within 4-6 weeks

3 How to apply – PGR programmes Begin to develop a research idea Choose your department Find a supervisor and make contact Finalise your research proposal Complete the online application form Provide your supporting documents A decision will normally be made within 6-8 weeks

4 Useful information Application deadline of the 31 st July for applicants from outside of the EU The application assessment fee increases from 1 st January 2015 How to Apply guidance available online and in the application form itself

6 Scholarships and Bursaries Changing landscape for external funding via Research Councils Majority of funding at research-level but increasing focus on funding schemes for taught-programmes Graduate School, International Office, and external websites all hold rich details of studentships and terms+ conditions Funding without full-funding as an option

7 Master’s Funding Research Councils provide limited funding at Master’s level International awards for particular nationalities – Li Xiaoming (Chinese), Bright Futures (Hong Kong), Entente Cordiale (French) WTMSS – 71 awards in 2014 for students to widen access to PG study at Master’s level. Assessed via statement and other metrics such as home income, receipt of grants etc. Min £7050 towards fees + £4000 bursary.

8 PhD funding CADRE scholarships – 12 x 3.5 year funded studentships. £14,140 stipend + fees per annum (Home/EU) Wolfson Foundation Scholarships – 4 x 3 year studentships. £27,666 per annum inc fees and stipend (Home/EU - Language, Literature, History) Chancellor’s International Competition – 25 x 3.5 year studentships. £14,400 stipend + fees (International) All 3 scholarships available via the central PGR competition – apply via the Admissions Form by 12 January 2015 Economic and Social History Researchers may be eligible for ESRC funding – via their competition

9 Funding without full-funding Lots of smaller bursaries and grants available Studying and working part-time Unitemps and Student Ambassador roles Residential Life Team Career Development Loans
