Question #1 What travel costs are allowable for Perkins funds?

Answer #1 1.Travel for “instructional purposes”. Otherwise it is an administrative cost subject to the 5% cap.

Question #2 Can I pay for an expense with Perkins funds that I have previously been paying for with non-Perkins funds?

Answer #2 NO – this would be “supplanting” and is not allowable

Question #3 What should I be doing if I am consistently failing one or more of my Perkins targets?

Answer #3 1. Use your Perkins funds to target improvements in this area. 2. Negotiate your FAUPLs with Jeff McDonald – by May 1 st.

Question #4 If an LEA receives less than $15,000 in Perkins formula funds, is there something special I should be doing?

Answer #4 YES - $15,000 is the minimum amount an LEA should qualify (size, scope, quality) for. If an LEA receives qualifies less than that they should enter into a consortium arrangement where funds are pooled together for the benefit of all in the group. Or they can receive a Minimum Allocation Waiver.

Question #5 Can I purchase standard classroom furniture with Perkins?

Answer #5 NO – standard furniture, files, and equipment “not specific and unique” to the instructional program are not allowable.

Question #6 Can you pay stipends to students from Perkins funds?

Answer #6 No – stipends for students are not allowable. You cannot “pay students to learn”. However – a stipend paid to a student for work performed not related to their learning program MAY be allowable. (example: redesigning a website)

Question #7 Do I have to do a Perkins Local Plan this year?
