Pesticide use in banana End Next

Banana are susceptible to damage to damage by insects, the leaves are attacked by fugal diseases and roots are damaged by tiny worm-like creatures called nematodes, weeds grow prolifically under the canopy. Once harvested the fruit can also develop “crown rot” or ripen to early, the solution to all of these problems is pesticides. Pesticides are often referred to according to the type of pest they control. Another way to think about pesticides is to consider those that are chemical pesticides or are derived from a common source or production method. Other categories include biopesticide and antimicrobials. Introduction: EndPrevious Next

Pesticides can be classified or grouped in many different ways. Fungicides (fungi) Bactericides (bacteria) Herbicides (weeds) Acaricides, Miticides (mites) Rodenticides EndPrevious Next

Chemical Pesticides Chemical pesticide spray with banana crops Some examples of chemically-related pesticides follow. Other examples are available in sources such as recognition and management of pesticide poisonings. Biopesticides Organic pesticides plants parts Biopesticide are certain types of pesticides derived from such natural materials as animals, plants, bacteria, and certain minerals. For example, canola oil and baking soda have pesticidal applications and are considered biopesticides. EndPrevious Next

At the end of 2001, there were approximately 195 registered biopesticide active ingredients and 780 products. Biopesticides fall into three major classes Microbial pesticides Plant-incorporated-protectants (PIPS) Biochemical pesticides There are two level’s of benefit for pesticide use Primary Secondary EndPrevious Next

Primary Benefits are direct gains from the use of pesticides Controlling pests and plant disease vectors Improved crop/livestock yields Improved crop/livestock quality Invasive species controlled Controlling human/livestock disease vectors and nuisance organisms Human lives saved and suffering reduced Animal lives saved and suffering reduced Diseases contained geographically EndPrevious Next

Advantages of Pesticides Pesticides are powerful chemicals which may have a significant impact on the environment, in either a positive or negative way. Advantages of pesticides are Fast-acting, the only things that work against a specific pest, They can control large infestations, They are easy to obtain and apply, They may increase crop production by reducing crop losses, and Their use against pests may significantly improve human health. Disadvantages of Pesticides Disadvantages of pesticides are damage and/or accumulate within the environment, It kill non-target species Dangerous to users/pets/native species Drift from their original point of application. EndPrevious Next

Let us sum up Banana is susceptible to damage by insects. Pesticides can be classified different groups. Classification of chemical pesticides is Organophosphate Pesticides, Carbamate Pesticides, Organochlorine Insecticides and Pyrethroid Pesticides. Classification of chemical bio pesticides is Microbial pesticides, Plant- incorporated-protectants (PIPS) and Biochemical pesticides Azoxystrobin, Biterthanol, Propiconazole, Tridemorph, Chlorotalonil /c, Mancozeb and Maneb these are the chemical pesticides are mostly used for banana pest management.
