2 Changes for 2011 In continuing in our effort to reduce pesticide usage on campus we are going to be using roughly half as much Roundup for 2011 as we did in 2010, we hope to achieve this by incorporating an organic herbicide as Roundup primary replacement. For 2011 I have chosen Burnout II as it worked better in our trials and was much easier to purchase as now our primary supplier for turf products will carry it for us. It has received some good reviews and is currently available and in quantity which will help keep the cost down. GreenMatch worked but the rates are slightly higher with warmer air temperatures required for applications. I have found in any of the applications we will have to do multiple applications in some areas to achieve the desired goals of the product.

5 Pesticide Reference Insecticide: Product Name:Sevin 4F Active Ingredient:CARBARYL Carbaryl (sevin) Insecticide is a aqueous meduim that readily disperses in water to form a spray which then is applied to the foliage of the targeted plant material. Short residual effectiveness Mode of Action: Contact and ingestive Product Name:Dylox Active Ingredient:Trichlorfon Dylox works by contact and ingestion. Contact activity provides quick knockdown, while ingestive activity ensures complete pest control. Short residual effectiveness Mode of Action: Contact and ingestive

6 Pesticide Reference Herbicides: Product Name:Round up Active Ingredient:Glyphosate Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum systemic herbicide used to kill weeds, especially perennials(grasses) It is absorbed through the leaves.systemicherbicideweedsperennials Short residual effectiveness Mode of Action: systemic plant absorbs material. Product Name:Burnout II Active Ingredient:Citric Acid, Clove oil Burnout IIis non-selective, natural organic oil, that controls most annual and perennial weeds, both grasses and broadleaves. It is a fast-acting, post-emergence herbicide for use on weeds that already exist. Works best with short grasses under 6 inch tall. The active ingredient in Burnout II,is Citric Acid, Clove oil a powerful, herbicidal, essential oil that strips away the waxy cuticle from weeds’ leaves, causing fast wilting (necrosis), dehydration and death. Lemongrass oil provides a longer lasting burndown than other essential oils, and is further strengthened by other natural oils and surfactants in the. (from the brochure) Short residual effectiveness Mode of Action: contact only. Product Name:Trimec Classic Active Ingredient:MSMA, 2,4-D Dicamba Trimec is a selective post-emergent broadleaf herbicide that readily disperses in water Short residual effectiveness Mode of Action: systemic plant absorbs through leaves.
