beginning stance with foot opposite of racquet in front. knees bent slightly - simultaneously tosses ball overhead and raises racquet - holds ball between thumb and all four fingers with thumb pointing to spot of contact. - shifts weight from back to front foot. -toss is proper height -does not cross serving line eyes on ball at contact - snaps wrist - follows through with racquet across body. -able to place the ball into the correct box -able to vary speed or depth -able to strategically place the ball -able to hit the ball into the correct box 8 out of 10 times Able to hit ball over 100 mph

User-Friendly Rubric Go from left to right Try to make all the language positive. For each column, think of it as a sentence. A Developing Learner will… Imagine a young child learning a new skill. The beginner category is what someone just starting out would do. It is not “bad” but just a beginning. * Think of the Practitioner column as your goal. This is the A column. Expert is A+.

A beginner will… A developing learner will… A practitioner will… An expert will… Using Utensils -Pick up and play with utensils. -Pick up utensil when encouraged to. -Be interested in watching others eat with utensils but choose to eat with hands. - Use utensil when asked to. -Use utensil to pick up food -Often hold utensil upside down when bringing toward mouth -Get some food into mouth via utensil. -Use hands as primary method of getting food. - Ask for utensil when one is not provided -Use utensil to pick up food and as the primary means of delivering food into to mouth. -Know whether to use a fork or spoon depending on the food. -Be able to figure out what kind of foods require a utensil and which do not -Use a knife to cut food -Learn utensil etiquette for setting and eating of different foods.
