Before class begins, have your journal out and a writing utensil. Pick up Cornell Notes instructions on the back table. Leave the folders on your table until given instructions.

Examine each of the four political cartoons at your table and answer the questions in your journal. NOTE: This is an individual activity. You may not “share” the work with a partner.

Answer the following set of questions for 4 political cartoons. Be sure to list the cartoon title before answering the questions in your journal. 1. What do you see in the image? (List any racial stereotypes, background/setting, or any other characteristics that might be important to the main message). This can be bullet points. 2. How are the characters portrayed in the cartoon? What does this symbolize? 3. Who do you think the intended audience is? 4. What is the bias that is portrayed in this cartoon? 5. What message is the author trying to get across in the cartoon?
