Safety Rules The construction class is designed to be a safe environment. Even so, machines and tools can cause serious injury if you are not careful. Safety then becomes a full time concern. While working in the shop, you are responsible not only for your safety but also for the well-being of the persons working around you.

Do not attempt to operate a machine until you have received operating instruction and understand all safety rules with respect to the equipment In case of all injury, report the injury to your teacher immediately. Always work and act like a professional when working in the woodshop. Make sure I know all fire exits, power shutdown switches and how to use them during emergency situations.

Do not compromise the safety of others through horseplay or aggressive action. Only use equipment when properly trained, always with necessary personal protection equipment and when I fully understand all related safety issues. Ask assistance from the teacher when I am unsure of the proper procedure or health and safety issues

Class Rules Regular attendance and punctuality are vital to success. Proper school attendance reporting procedures must be followed. Please see school agenda. No food or drink is permitted in class. Cell phones are to be turned off upon entry to class. If rule is not respected, phone will be taken away, and students can pick up phone at the end of school day from the vice- principal. Headphones are not to be used or visible during class.

Bring a notebook, writing utensil, projects and any other learning material to class. Come to class on time, trips to washroom and lockers will be minimized. Safety is our primary concern when in the shop unsafe work practices will not be tolerated, instances such as refusal to consistently ware safety glasses will result in removal from shop. Students are responsible for clean-up at end of class.

We are not incorporating a shop fee. But there will be an extra cost for an upgrade in material if requested. Eg. Project using basswood is ok, but if you wanted to do project in oak there will be an extra cost. Note this fee is due before you begin our project
