3.  A list of the all the classes you have taken at a specific institution  The grades received for each of those classes (A,B,C,D, or E)  Writing utensil  Paper  Calculator (optional)

4.  Write down each of your classes on a piece of paper and the grade you received for each of those classes

5. At this point, your paper should look similar to this Elementary CalculusB English CompositionA Introduction to PhysicsC Organic ChemistryE Intro to ISA

6.  Alongside the letter grade, place the number value associated with your grade.  We will call this points earned. › On a 4.0 scale the points assigned to each grade is as follows A = 4 points B = 3 points C = 2 points D = 1 point E = No points

7.  So far, your piece of paper should look something like this GradePoints Earned Elementary CalculusB3 English CompositionA4 Introduction to PhysicsC2 Organic ChemistryE0 Intro to ISA4

8.  Write the credit hours for each of the courses next to points earned

9. GradePoints Earned Credit hours Elementary CalculusB33 English CompositionA43 Introduction to PhysicsC24 Organic ChemistryE03 Intro to ISA43

10.  Multiply the points earned for a class by the credit hours for that class.  We will call this the grade points points earned xcredit hours = grade points

11. For example, the points earned for Elementary calculus is 3 and the course is 3 credit hours therefore the grade points received is 9. ClassGrade Points Earned Credit hours Grade Points Elementary Calculus B3x3 = 9 English Composition A4x3 = 12 Introduction to Physics C2x4 = 8 Organic Chemistry E0x3 = 0 Intro to IS A4x3 = 12

12.  Add the grade point values for all classes together. We will call this the total grade points

13. Class Grade Points Earned Credit hours Grade Points Elementary Calculus B3x3 = 9 English Composition A4x3 = 12 Introduction to Physic C2x4 = 8 Organic Chemistry E0x3 = 0 Intro to IS A4x3 = 12 Totals Grade Points 41 The Total Grade Points in this example is 41

14.  Add the credit hours together for all the classes  We will call this the total credit hours

15. Class Grade Points Earned Credit hours Grade Points Elementary Calculus B3x3 = 9 English Composition A4x3 = 12 Introduction to Physic C2x4 = 8 Organic Chemistry E0x3 = 0 Intro to IS A4x3 = 12 Totals credit hours16 -The total credit hours in this example is 16

16.  Divide the total grade points by the total credit hours  Total grade points/ Total credit hours

17.  Total Grade Points = 41  Total Credit Hours = 16  41/16 = 2.5625

18.  Many schools round down to the nearest hundredth  So the example GPA value of 2.5625 will round down to 2.56  This is the final step!
