Objectives At the conclusion of this tutorial you should be able to do the following: Locate basic country information from the World Factbook and the Department of State’s Country Fact Sheets or Background Notes. Write correct citation for the information found.

What’s so special? The sources we’ll cover in this tutorial are but two of the many sources that provide basic country information. The World Factbook is updated annually and occasionally more frequently when changes are warranted. The Background Note series was updated periodically though not necessarily on annual basis for all countries. The Background Note series has become over the past several months the Country Fact Sheet series. Each source collects roughly the same information on every country so comparisons can be easily made between countries. Both sources are available free of charge from any computer with Internet Access.
