Energy consumption is growing, production is in transition Bron: BP Energy Outlook 2030 Global demand for energy keeps growing... But the importance of alternative energies is increasing Global energy consumptionGlobal energymix What does this mean for energy imports?
7
Facilitating an energy transition in bioenergy It is a small step for the oil terminals to store biofuels. The share of biofuels is approximately equal to the mandatory percentage that energy producers are required tot blend (approximately 5 % in 2012). Two dedicated biodiesel plants are recently located in the Port of Amsterdam; fed by organic residues and rapeseed oil.
8
Why is Amsterdam interested in biomass? Biomass is a new energy source and a driver of the Bio based economy. Biomass transhipment fits in seamlessly with other transhipment of agri bulk Biomass players are allready located in the port (e.g.coal terminals & agribulk terminals) Amsterdam is perfectly suited as a renowned energy hub and having expertise of similar cargo flows. Enormous growth potential: Five Coal-fired energy plants in the Netherlands already blend biomass.

The Amsterdam Waste and Energy company (AEB) Facts per Year: 1,4 Million ton waste Electricity: 1 Million MWh (eq. 285,000 Household = 75 % of Amsterdam) District heating: 500,000 GigaJoule (12,000 Households ) PoA Project: Mapping the thermal infrastructure: Mapping Heat, Cooling and Steam in the Port area. Suppliers and demanders Looking for more connections and synergy By planning locate demanders nearby supplies

Wind energy in the port of Amsterdam Current Capacity is 65 MW which powers 40.000 homes. The growing target for the port area is a total Capacity of 100 MW. Amsterdam sustainable target: 40 % CO2 reduction. Wind is the most profitable sustainable energy in The Netherlands. Wind turbines contributes to the recognition of the port area and his identity. The image of the wind turbines fits into the Industrial area with big scaled objects like chimneys and cranes
