4TH GRADE OPEN HOUSE Welcome, parents, guardians, and students!

WELCOME TO 4TH GRADE! Thank you for coming tonight! We hope that you will learn valuable information regarding your child’s 4th grade academic school year.

GRADE GOALS To give your child the academic and social skills needed to progress to fifth grade and thrive in an ever changing society. Students need to accept RESPONSIBILITY for one’s own actions and academic success. Become Life-Long Learners.

DRESS CODE Students are to come dressed in the appropriate uniform including: light blue and white shirts, khaki and navy blue bottoms. Phone calls and notes will be sent home if students fail to have on uniforms.

CLASSROOM (SCHOOL) RULES In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. Rule #1 Follow directions quickly. Rule #2 Raise your hand for permission to speak. Rule #3 Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat. Rule #4 Make Smart Choices Rule Always try your best!

SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST A lot of the students have not brought in the supplies its important that they bring it in… We sent the list first day of school along with the Beginning of schools packet… Please return the beginning of schools packet … Media Release needs to be completed in the packet…

READING, LANGUAGE ARTS, AND MATH CURRICULUM All curriculum instruction is guided by Florida State Standards. Students are required to do A LOT more then bubbling in A, B, C, or D. In the 4 th grade students are using textbooks, novel sets, and non-fiction resources, etc… to teach the standards.

HOME LEARNING Reading- Please encourage your child to read their library books and answer questions citing text evidence each night to increase fluency and comprehension. Example- Josh’s dad is a construction worker. Evidence states on page 6 paragraph one and two that Josh’s dad built houses and worked at the construction site everyday. Students will AR test on their library books every Friday and yes it will be for a reading GRADE! Language Arts- As time progress, students will be having Friday Write Night… I will notify you by text when that begins… Math- Students have math worksheet pages they are required to complete.

READING AND WRITING CURRICULUM All curriculum instruction is guided by the Common Core State Standards. Writing- Your child will be creating various types of writing including: Narrative, Descriptive, Informative/Expository, Opinion, Letter Writing, Poetry, Journaling, and Creative Stories. Reading- Your child will be required to write sentences citing evidence as part of completing the new Assessment. SPELLING and PUNCTUATION COUNTS AGAINST THEM!!!

SCIENCE CURRICULUM Math- Students are required to explain how they arrived to their answers either in complete sentences or by showing correct work. Science as Inquiry, Physical Science, Life Science, Earth and Space Science, Science and the Environment will remain the same for now…
