Introduction George Washington signed a bill in 1790 to locate the nation’s capitol in the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. The “Federal City” is shaped in a triangle for the 3 BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT.

What is the Capitol Building? Some people say the Capitol building is the “center and heart of America”. It is where the laws of the United States of America’s laws are made.

What is the White House? The PRESIDENT of the United States of America lives in the White House. The PRESIDENT works in the OVAL OFFICE.

White House Facts The address of the White House is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It is more than 100 years old. There are 132 rooms in the White House. Many of the rooms are named for colors.

Capitol Building Facts The STATUE OF FREEDOM is at the top of the dome. The Capitol Building is famous for its ROTUNDA, which is under the dome. When the statue is lighted, you know Congress is meeting in a night session. 17 U.S. Presidents are honored there. The Capitol Building holds a treasury of art.
