Powerful people in Washington began their careers as Capitol Hill interns. Students learn about legislative process. Make professional contacts in Washington, DC. Work in personal offices of House/ Senate members. Congressional committees, House and Senate leadership offices offer internships. Interns provide administrative support, answer phones, coordinate mail, write letters, research issues for pending legislation, assist at press conferences and media services, compile information for Congressional hearings, give tours of United States Capitol. Many members of Congress offer internships in their district offices which can also lead to positions in Washington, DC.
