“Hands-on” supervision — when the supervisor is directly involved in monitoring or helping the supervised clinician as he/she performs tasks. “Hands-off” supervision — when the supervisor trusts the supervised clinician to act independently, leaving space for the supervisee to deploy emerging skills and test growing clinical abilities. However, “hands-off” supervision is not the absence of supervision!
