Recap and remind children that living things can be sorted into Plants and Animals. What category do humans fit into? Why? Explain that the animals category can be sorted into further categories and that the main six are: mammals, birds, insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles. Use Classification PPTs to explain this. How are humans different to insects/birds/fish/reptiles/amphibians? Children discuss with a talk partner/write ideas on whiteboard then feedback. Others agree/disagree using thumbs up/down. Teacher to write ideas on board. Repeat with other categories.
