3. A chromatic scale is a set of 12 semitones A piano/keyboard is made up of lots of chromatic scales that are just repeated in different pitches. If you play a chromatic scale quickly, it sounds like someone is running up/down the stairs!

4. Dissonance means unstable or clashing sound (The opposite is Consonance) To create dissonance you just have to play 2 or more notes that are really close to each other like the examples in the picture

5. A Glissando is lots of notes played quickly make a sliding sound Running your finger up/down the piano keys is a glissando. It also sounds really scary on stringed instruments This is how a glissando is written on paper!

6. A tri-tone is 2 notes played together that are 3 tones (or 6 semitones) apart Here are two examples of tri-tones. Orange 1 2 3 C# D D# E F F# G Green 1 2 3 E F F# G G# A A# It is also known as the Devil’s chord because it sounds so horrible and evil !!

7. A tremolo is one or two notes played over and over really quickly If you are playing a tremolo with two notes they have to be a semitone apart e.g. C and C# This is how a tremolo is written down on paper
