Coal Production - Over 4970 Mt of hard coal is currently produced – a 78% increase over the past 25 years. Coal production has grown fastest in Asia, while Europe has actually seen a decline in production. The largest coal producing countries are not confined to one region – the top five producers are China, the USA, India, Australia and South Africa. Much of global coal production is used in the country in which it was produced, only around 16% of hard coal production is destined for the international coal market. Global coal production is expected to reach 7000 Mt in 2030 – with China accounting for around half the increase over this period. Steam coal production is projected to have reached around 5200 Mt; coking coal 620 Mt; and brown coal 1200 Mt.

Does China produce more than all the other 9 combined?

1Mt = 1 mega tonne 1 tonne = 1000kg this equals 1,000,000 tonnes or 1,000,000,000 kg what is this written using science notation? How many Kg of coal will be mined by 2030 ?

The amount of carbon dioxide in the air is never static. Green plants remove carbon dioxide during photosynthesis. (Without trees, plants and forests we would be experiencing for greater global warming.) P lant growth (+ maximum photosynthesis PS)occurs at 25 degrees C. Sea weed probably accounts for most photosynthesis. At higher temps PS decreases because plants close stomata to help slow water loss.

How many Kg of CO 2 does the atmosphere hold? (Hint refer to third page)

VENUS the Sun and receiving only 25% of the solar energy that Mercury does. The average temperature on the surface is above the melting points of the metals lead(327 °C), tin(232 °C), and zinc(420 °C). A DEAD PLANET NEARBY!

Cars and trucks use fossil fuels as fuel. Cars generally use petrol, trucks often use diesel All these fossil fuels are hydrocarbons All contain carbon and hydrogen Here is octane C 8 H 18 mass = 114 % carbon = 84% Petrol is approximately 85% carbon

Typical car petrol tanks contain 60L This equals 60kg (approx) How many kg of C? This carbon content will be converted to carbon dioxide Carbon dioxide will weigh 3.666X more! 51kg 186kg

How much petrol will your family use in 1 week? How much petrol will your family use in 1 year? How much petrol will Chancellor use in 12months? (consider our maths group)! How much carbon dioxide will Australia produce in 12 months

What can we do about lowering or carbon footprint??

Discuss! What can we do to make a change
