Stoves If you are setting up a base camp close to where you are parked, a larger stove may be an option. If you are tramping with the stove - get a very light compact one.

Types of Fuel Butane, Propane, Isobutane - convenient, not the lightest, relatively expensive White spirit - versatile, reliable, inexpensive and efficient; but volatile Methylated spirits - environmentally friendly; but low heat output Unleaded petrol - inexpensive; but very volatile Solid fuel - works well as a backup or in your survival kit

What to look for How easy is it to set up? Is it sturdy? Can the fuel be detached when not empty? How easy is it to use? What is the heat output? Can you maintain it in the field? How long will the fuel last? Use a lid Use a windshield Clean and maintain stove properly

Pots Titanium - very lightweight, medium boil time; but expensive Stainless steel - fast boil time, moderate boil time; but heavy Aluminium - lightweight, cheap; but slow boil time
