Virtual Precipitate Lab - In a precipitate lab, you get six unknown chemicals and some information on the colors of some precipitates. A precipitate is formed when two solutions are mixed together and one of the products is insoluble in water. You then mix each of the chemicals with all of the others and record the ones which react and the ones which don’t. - Everything will be the same in this virtual lab, except that you won’t be mixing any chemicals (physically). Press the space bar to continue.
3
Lab instructions You need to combine each of the six chemicals with the other five. If you’ve already mixed A with B, you don’t need to mix B with A. Possible chemicals (in no order) Sodium carbonate Barium chloride Sodium hydroxide Potassium iodide Sodium sulfate Copper sulfate Precipitate Colors Barium White sulfate-White (2) Copper hydroxide-Dark blue Copper carbonate-Light blue Barium White carbonate-White Copper iodide-Yellow/brown You will be able to return here later. Press space bar.

Laboratory Layout Click a red square to mix those chemicals. Then a green square when you’ve tried them all. Done!! Let’s try the solution. Go back to the list of chemicals Click here to see what they all look like
5
It appears that no reaction occurred Click to return to the reaction page
6
There was a reaction! Click to return to the reaction page
7
A precipitate formed!! Click to return to the reaction page
8
Look, something happened!! Click to return to the reaction page
9
Oooh, looks gross!! Click to return to the reaction page
10
Here’s what they all look like
11
Now figure out which chemical is which letter. Which chemical is the one called A ? Just click next to the answer Sodium hydroxide Copper sulfate Barium chloride Potassium iodide Sodium sulfate Sodium carbonate Go back to the info page
12
Sorry You got the first one wrong!!
13
Good job so far!! Now which chemical was called “B”? Sodium hydroxide Copper sulfate Barium chloride Potassium Iodide Sodium carbonate Go back to the info page
14
Sorry, that’s not correct, but you got the first one!
15
Not bad, two for two!! Now which is the one called “C”? Copper sulfate Barium chloride Potassium iodide Sodium carbonate Go back to the info page
16
Sorry, that’s not correct, but you got the first two right!
