Classroom Procedures
2
Why Should We Have Procedures in Our Classroom?
3
Procedures are a part of life
Procedures are a part of life. They allow complex operations to run smoothly with minimal confusion, low stress, and less wasted time. Airports Driving Restaurants Movies School Where else are procedures practiced?
4
Classroom and Academic Expectations
5
Classroom Expectations
The atmosphere in this classroom will be formal and academic, but comfortable. Students will work hard, learn Horticulture, and enjoy the process. Now ask your self, If a visitor walked into our classroom during the day, what should they see?
6
I expect students to do the following things to make sure the classroom runs smoothly:
Attend class, and arrive on time. Have materials ready when the bell rings. Listen when others are speaking. Follow directions the first time they are given. Get permission before speaking. Be polite and respectful toward each other. Stay on-task and focused on aquatics.
7
Academic Expectations
Come to class on time and have materials ready. Follow teacher’s directions and complete assignments. Work hard and enjoy the process. Do your best. Do not complain; it poisons the atmosphere.
8
Daily Procedures
9
Entering the Classroom Procedure
Enter the room from the street side of the shop Get your notebook out and be seated. Read the bell work assignment posted on the board and start working. If you finish the bell work assignment early, work on something else quietly. Quietly, patiently wait for instruction.
10
Bellwork Procedure Bell work will be on the board or overhead
Read the bell work assignment on the board and start working. Do not wait for the teacher or the bell. If you finish the bell work assignment early, find something quiet to work on while others are finishing.
11
What is bellwork? The assignment posted on the board to be done when you get to class. You will have 5 minutes. This will be checked periodically for a test grade. You are responsible for getting the bell work every day.
12
When you finish work early . . .
quietly read a book. organize your planner or homework. use your hand held computer for academic work. sit quietly. do a puzzle. work on homework. wait patiently.

Tardy Procedure (1) Once the bell has rung you must go down to the office and receive a tardy pass in order to enter the classroom
16
Absence Procedure When you are absent, it is your responsibility to get with the teacher to see what you missed. You will have until the end of the week to complete your missed work.
17
Listening to/Responding to Questions
When we are having class discussions, raise your hand to be called on and actively listen to whoever is speaking. Teacher will give specific instructions when students are to call out answers without first raising their hands. Ask only questions that are relevant to the lesson. Be respectful of all comments and ideas, even if they differ from yours.
18
Working Together in Groups
Each student in a cooperative group will have a task which will be assigned by teacher or determined by group members. Example of tasks: - recorder - presenter - materials person - clean up person - encourager - leader–keep group on task
19
Getting the Class’ Attention
The teacher will say, “May I have your attention please”, “I need your attention” or I will just start talking and you will have to keep up. When you hear the teacher speaking. 1) stop what you are doing. 2) look at the teacher and listen.
20
End of the Class Dismissal Procedure
I will give you heads up on when to get ready to go. Hand in daily work. Put away materials. Make sure desk area is neat and trash is picked up. When the bell rings, be seated and look at the teacher (All students must be seated). Teacher dismisses class. Push in chairs and proceed quickly and quietly out the door near the street side.
