10 Journal: International Women’s Day Yesterday marked International Women’s Day, which celebrates the achievements of women around the world. Steinbeck has been criticized for creating female characters that are simply stereotypes. Also, consider the primary female character in the novel, Curley’s wife. Why does Steinbeck not name her? Still, we’ve all have witnessed some exceptional women in our lives (mothers, sisters, friends, teachers, etc.). Write about one of those exceptional women. Tell a story about how they have had a positive impact on your life.

In the play, Hamlet loves his mother but is torn by the fact that she has married so soon after his father’s death. Like most, Hamlet’s relationship with his mother is complex. While no mom is perfect (an Hamlet’s isn’t), what makes your mom a great mother, a terrific woman to be celebrated. Write a story about you and your mom (or a “mother figure”).
