3 Linked Learning prepares students for college and career—not just one or the other – Linked Learning is the “HOW”, Common Core is the “WHAT”

Linked Learning Is an approach that integrates rigorous academics with career-based learning and real world workplace experiences Guiding Principles Prepare students for both college and career Lead to the full range of postsecondary options Connect core academics to real-world applications Improve student achievement 4

Linked Learning Components A comprehensive four-year program of study: A college-prep academic core emphasizing real world applications A technical core of four or more courses meeting industry standards; providing certification Work-based learning Support services - supplementary instruction, counseling, and transportation 5

Linked Learning Pilot District Authorized in 2011 with the passage of Assembly Bill (AB) 790 – often referred to as AB 790 In 2012, 63 schools were selected to participate in the pilot program – CVUHSD CV already had the career academies, now we need to develop and strengthen current academies so they can be Linked Learning certified and expand pathways

Linked Learning Certification to earn certification the pathway leadership team has to upload evidence of implementation for 40 categories in the Linked Learning rubric and take part in a two day site visit Categories on the Linked Learning rubric include: – Program Design – Engaged Learning – System Support – Evaluation & Accountability

The Process 1) Informational Meeting 2) Complete and submit an “Intent to Submit a Proposal” Packet to Hatha I. Parrish- May 1, 2014 3) District review of Intents to Submit & Notification to Proceed to Application Packet - May 1-9, 2014

The Process 4) Academy Application Workshop for approved Applicants - May 29, 2014 5) Complete and submit application packet to Hatha I. Parrish- August 1, 2014 6) Applications will be evaluated by Site and District Committee, using the CDE’s CPA Rubric and Linked Learning Qualifications. August 1-8, 2014

“Intent to Submit a Proposal” “Intent to Submit a Proposal” The entire “Intent to Submit” is due to Hatha Parrish by May 1, 2014 This will then be reviewed and you will be notified as to whether you should proceed to the application stage in the process.
