4 Plans for April Prepare outline of requirements for each configuration. These requirements will be used as the basis for costing. –Submit for Project Managers concurrence (mid to late December). 5 Plans for April Assemble cost in a similar manner as we did for the KlyCluster, using RDR Main Linac (WBS 1.7) for each configuration (Complete early March) Nov. 19, 2008 ILC08 Global Design Effort 5

6 Plans for April Release “Draft” report Study on Tunnel Configuration in early April The report will identify potential impacts that each configuration will have on technical systems, installation and operations. All CFS work will be documented and any remaining work will be identified. Nov. 19, 2008 ILC08 Global Design Effort 6

7 Plans for April Tunnel Configuration Study will examine and cost only the Electron and Prositron Main Linac. Labor and material costs will be based on northern Illinois cost data. Cost will reflect the final cost of construction. Cost estimates will be provided in accordance with the input provided by the cost engineers. For each of the implied means and methods suitable ground conditions will be assumed to establish the unit costs. Nov. 19, 2008 ILC08 Global Design Effort 7

8 Post April 2009 Start to study the impacts that site attributes might have on the construction, operations and performance of the accelerator as well as the incremental cost increase required by the attributes of a specific site. The number of alternative configurations, combined with the number of actual siting opportunities can be large. Resources will determine the number and priority of alternatives that can be analyzed. 9 Post April Siting Impacts –Conventional Facilities Site Considerations, dated 16 Aug. 2005. –Staring with this document, we need to determine those items that will be important for a site evaluation. Nov. 19, 2008 ILC08 Global Design Effort 9

10 POST April Unit costs for required utilities such as electric power, cooling water and access roads will be developed. These unit costs can be applied to potential sites to help establish an overall construction cost. Nov. 19, 2008 ILC08 Global Design Effort 10

11 Post April The ILC design will be different from the existing accelerator complexes are what we are familiar with. We need to identify which requirements are important to the ILC and its planned operations. A distinction will need to be made between on- site operations and remote operations. While CFS is not well suited to provide these answers, we can help foster discussions of these issues, push for consensus, and document requirements in site specific terms.
