SENSORY DETAILS SHOW, not tell what is happening
2
Details In your writing, you need to use details that put the reader in your shoes. Use details such as SIGHT, SOUND, TASTE, TOUCH and SMELL
3
Example 1 – SIGHT AND SOUND The rain hit the car…. The huge drops of water pounded the car as if to beat it up.
4
Example 2 The smell of cookies filled the kitchen… The aroma of melted butter and sweet chocolate morsels attacked my senses as I passed the kitchen.
5
Example 3 The house was on fire… The intense heat radiated from the burning wood singeing my arm hairs as the blaze overcame the rickety old house like a thunder could on a clear sunny day.
6
Example 4 The picnic table was rough… As I wiped off the picnic table splinters tore at my flesh like sandpaper against a wall.
7
Now you get to try… The gym was hot after the game. *Make sure to use at LEAST 3 senses to SHOW the detail.
8
Pie was baking in the kitchen. *Make sure to use at LEAST 3 senses to SHOW the detail.
9
The sun was bright and the birds were making noise. *Make sure to use at LEAST 3 senses to SHOW the detail.
