The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was established with a single purpose: to protect the health and safety of workers from job-related accidents and illness, At the time of OSHA's creation by Congress in 1970, an average of 14,500 people were killed by industrial accidents every year and many more suffered debilitating illness caused by work-related incidents. Some statistics indicate that the incidence of industrial-related death and injuries have dropped by as much as 62% since OSHA was put in place.
