Tips on getting through an OSHA inspection
9
Any Site Specific training that maybe required from our client ourselves or the local area Any topic training that maybe needed to get onsite Such as H2S training Evacuation policy Provide any PPE that maybe required You must allow them to enter the project, they have to meet the same expectations as our employees
10
We can choose who is going to participate in the inspection more than just the supervisor is recommended Check Credentials, don’t just be surprised by the badge Take time to share our safety values and tools Management Commitment Stop Unsafe Work Authority BJSA’s Membership in the APCA and their alliance with OSHA
11
If a specific Item they want to see based upon a complaint Lead the inspector directly to what they want to see and then straight back same path of travel both ways They can look at any issue from point A to point B and back that they think is an issue. Industry or Project Inspection Politely lead them around, if asked “what we are building” politely answer the question, no more/ no less Don’t point out things you may see,
12
During the inspection the inspector may want to take pictures, if a hot work is needed, get one If they take a picture You take a picture from the same angle as they did If they take notes You take notes on questions asked, answers given They can talk to other employees without you present Step back out of the way give them room to talk without the pressure of wondering if you can hear They’ll ask questions about our safety values Stop Unsafe Work Authority etc.
13
Take Notes about issues found Citations they are going to issue Don’t argue with the inspector Give him your local safety professional’s contact information if not part of the inspection
14
3-6 Months after the inspection we’ll receive the citations by mail, fax or both 15 business days after receiving the citations we’ll participate in an informal conference to discuss dismissal of the citations, negotiate a settlement We can contest all the citations and move to go to court in front of a Judge
15
Continue to perform dual project audits of your project These are designed to help with OSHA compliance Ensure your teams are performing all inspections such as, excavation, scaffold, equipment project audits Don’t allow shortcuts on your project, follow our safety policies and best practices Plan your work, Make safety practices part of your plan
