Occupational Safety and Health Act Draft Year: 1970 Purpose: Congress passed the Act to ensure worker and workplace safety. Goal: was to make sure employers provide their workers a place of employment free from recognized hazards to safety and health, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, heat or cold stress, or unsanitary conditions.

Organization OSHA is part of the United States Department of Labor. The administrator for OSHA is the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health. that oversees the administration of the Act and enforces standards in all 50 states. OSHA's administrator answers to the Secretary of Labor, who is a member of the cabinet of the President of the United States.
