BLUETOOTH

INTRODUCTION A look around at the moment! Keyboard connected to the computer, as well as a printer, mouse, monitor and so on. What (literally) joins all of these together? They are connected by cables. Cables have become the bane of many offices, homes etc. That is what the Bluetooth technology aims at – a cable replacement technology!

WHAT IS BLUETOOTH? Bluetooth is a wireless technology used to transfer data between different electronic devices. The distance of data transmission is small in comparison to other modes of wireless communication. Bluetooth is a high-speed, low-power microwave wireless link technology, designed to connect phones, laptops.

The name ‘Bluetooth’ was named after 10th century Viking king in Denmark Harald Bluetooth who united and controlled Denmark and Norway. The name was adopted because Bluetooth wireless technology is expected to unify the telecommunications and computing industries. Why is it called Bluetooth?

Who Started Bluetooth? Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) Founded in Spring 1998 By Ericsson, Intel, IBM, Nokia, Toshiba; Now more than 2000 organizations joint the SIG

Bluetooth Topology Bluetooth-enabled devices can automatically locate each other Topology is established on a temporary and random basis Up to eight Bluetooth devices may be networked together in a master-slave relationship to form a Piconet M M S S S S P sb P P

What is a Piconet? A Piconet session is a communication link that must be created between devices for devices to communicate with each other. This is done when the MAC address and the PIN number match.

Bluetooth ::How it works ? Unlike infrared which uses a beam of light to transmit data and is found in many remote controls, wireless keyboards, Bluetooth uses a radio frequency (2.4 GHz) to communicate. Bluetooth enabled devices can find each other without the user’s having to do anything. When two Bluetooth devices come within range of each other, they immediately begin a series of negotiations to determine if they have data to share or need to make a connection, and they form a small network known as a piconet or a personal area network (PAN).

Advantage Of Bluetooth: 1.BT devices are wireless 2. Bt technology is inexpensive 3. BT is automatic 4. Standardized protocol= interoperability 5. Low interferences 6. Low energy consumption 7. Share voice and data 8. Instant personal area network(PAN) 9. Upgradeable 10. The technology is here to stay

 Data sent between two Bluetooth devices is very slow compared with Wi-Fi transfer Rate.  Range Of a Bluetooth Device is 15-30 feet depending upon the Device.  Security is Biggest Disadvantage as transfer takes place through radio waves and a hacker can easily hack it.  Battery usage is also a problem, it will make device out of power before it would have if Bluetooth was not powered on. Disadvantages Of Bluetooth:

BLUETOOTH VERSIONS 1.BT specification versions 1.1 and earlier 2. BT versions 1.2 3.BT versions 2.0+EDR (enhanced data rat) 4.BT versions 2.1+EDR (enhanced data rat) 5.BT versions 3.0+Hs (High Speed)

CONCLUSION In conclusion, BT is a wireless technology that will make connection between various devices. BT technology takes away the need for several problematic cable attachments for connecting Cellular phones, handheld device, and computer. It is easy, simple, and inexpensive. The next time you think wireless, think BT…. It’s the best way to communicate !
