Typology Impacts and plan

Background EC has a set of rules about how to (i) value activity and (ii) allocate a farm type. These operate on a 10 year cycle. Any notable changes are usually once every 10 years Updates can be applied in interim years. Last period covered was 2000 to 2009. Current period is 2010 to 2019. Eurostat use FSS to gather data on agriculture across the EC.

Typology process - allocate a farm type based on reported activity Collate crops and livestock detail Value the crops and livestock (Total Output Value - TOV) Allocate farm type according to the mix within TOV

Changes for the 2010 – 2019 period New farm types A change in how some land and livestock items are valued/processed Now valuing non- agricultural horses New values for grassland and forage New multipliers. Standard Outputs – was Standard Gross Margins Some new thresholds for allocating farms

Typology – next steps Re-calculate (new) typology to incorporate CTS data. June census published late September/early October with new typology Assess impact on December survey build FBI rework Autumn 2013 Assess results and any impact on TIFF Dissemination options. Incorporate new farm types into TIFF. Identify priority areas for re- modelling. Dissemination options.
