 Mission Statement: “to eradicate poverty by engaging students and empowering communities”  Sustainable Development Projects

 International Component The sustainable development project project is completely run by college students and financed through Nourish’s fundraisers. We are planning on working with FINCA (Fundacion Integral Campesina), a non-profit based in Costa Rica.  The project: repair a community building in Bahia Ballena, Costa Rica Focus: Eco-tourism Microfinance Economic stability

 Impact on the University  Nourish International TAMU was founded in 2008 but its presence is already felt on campus. The chapter of A&M has made this possible through: Fundraisers - Hunger Lunch, chocolate sales Profit shares – local restaurants in the BCS area Making an impact on its members – members care deeply about what Nourish stands for and have put forth a lot of effort throughout the year

 Sustainability 1. Prolonged economic growth abroad 2. Sustainability of the organization Working on a leadership succession plan  Both goals go hand in hand

 Project Budget  Initial budget proposed by FINCA: $10,000  Currently communicating with FINCA about lowering the budget  Plan “B” is a work in progress  Personal Budget  It is estimated that each student will spend an average of $1,000 for a month of staying. -$650 Plane ticket -$200 transportation in the country -$150 food

 Fundraising We have been working in conjunction with the members of Nourish International to put on several fundraisers throughout the year. These include:  Hunger Lunch  Letter-Writing Campaign  Big Event Breakfast on campus Local profit shares  Selling candy bars

 Length of Time Students would leave the United States on June 1 st and return July 1 st. FINCA would give students a weekly schedule.  Plan “B” If we do not have the amount needed to make this project happen we will: (a) work with other chapters of Nourish on a different project (b) hold on to the money and use it for next year’s project

 Successes  Nourish was formed less than a year ago and has already raised more than $2000.  FINCA, our local contact, is a very established organization in Costa Rica. It makes it easier for us to not intervene with government’s bureaucracy.  Raising awareness at Texas A&M about sustainable development and poverty alleviation.

 Challenges & Recommendations  Challenges include:  Help start a new organization Finding a suitable advisor  Find committed members Advertise about the Organization and the project and get new members Always try to keep all members interested and motivated  Recommendations include:  Students leaving for Costa Rica should take a brief course on safety, health, and different cultures
