PEER ASSESSMENT Use the assessment checklist to peer assess one of the magazine pages. What are the strengths and weaknesses? Could the magazine page be improved? How?

PRODUCTION TIPS Make sure the genre and target audience of your magazine is obvious – use fonts, colours, layout, images, and language to do this. Follow the conventions of page layout for each page including all elements of page layout. Use a limited variety of font styles. Size fonts conventionally. Have a clear and consistent house style. Plan your photography carefully – make conventional use of shot types, angles, and mise-en-scene. Variety of images – at least two sets of photos.

DEADLINE REMINDER Tasks 8-11 and Homework 3 need to be completed, printed out and handed in by Friday 18 th of October. Task 8 – Summary of Audience Research Task 9 – Draft work Task 10 – Photography Planning Task 11- Pitch Homework 3 – Photography Planning Create a mood board to show the types of photographs you want to use in your magazine. Take a series of planning photographs to show the locations, props, costumes, and people you intend to use in your magazine. If you are able to, start taking your pictures for your product.

PLANNING YOUR MAGAZINE You now need to begin developing detailed planning for your magazine. This should include clear ideas about your brand identity and the content of your magazine. Complete a mind-map and moodboard to illustrate your ideas for your magazine. Use these ideas to create a pitch for your magazine.

PITCHING YOUR MAGAZINE Your pitch should be addressed to a suitable publishing institution (refer to Homework 2). The purpose of your pitch is to outline your ideas for your magazine, and explain how it will use conventions and appeal to the target audience. You will need to use your completed pitch to get audience feedback on your ideas through a focus group or short questionnaire.

THE PITCH Pitch your new music magazine to a suitable publishing company. Try to make your pitch as visual as possible and give a clear idea of what you magazine will be like The pitch should include: Why your magazine is suited to the publishing company. Outline of your magazine’s brand identity. Outline of content of first issue/typical content. Overview of the genre and how your magazine will be conventional. Overview of your target audience and how your magazine will appeal to that audience Summarise why your magazine will be successful.
