Outcomes Students will be able to explain how a tornado forms. Students will be able to define vortex, funnel, waterspout, thunder clound. Students will be able to recognize what a tornado looks like. Students will be able to describe how a tornado forms.

Explore: Vortex Activity Materials Needed: 1 plastic clear cup per student 1 spoon per student 1 drop of food coloring per student Water Procedure Fill cups up 2/3 of the way full. Tell students to stir the water with their spoon Teacher will come around and drop food coloring in each students cup.

Explore Cont. Demonstrate a tornado using the 2 liter bottles. Materials: (2) 2 liter bottles Water Food coloring Duct tape Fill 1 of the bottles 2/3 full of water. Add one drop of food coloring. Place other bottle upside down to connect together. Duct tape the openings.

Explain Read section from the book Hurricanes and Tornadoes by Terry Jennings Then complete worksheet as a class.

Elaborate Draw a tornado and write a sentence to describe a tornado. Have students present their drawing and sentence to the class.
