STOP KILLING THE WHALES!
10
People have killed millions of whales in the last hundreds of years. In the past, whaling was an important business because people could make a lot of profit from whale meat, whale oil, whalebone, blubber, spermaceti, etc.
11
In the 19th century, whaling reached its top in history. Hundreds of whaling ships sailed in the ocean, searched for whales to hunt. Before petroleum had been widely used, whale oil was the most important for lubricating and lighting.
12
Although whaling had become less and less profitable because of the development of the petroleum industry, people still killed the most whales in the middle of the 20th century. In 1964, more than 60,000 whales got killed!
13
With the advance of technology, whaling had become a modern business with factory ships and harpoons that explode inside the whale. People kill them very easily.
14
The number of whales has decreased with tremendous rate. Many people have noticed that and have been working hard to save the whales. They have achieved some good results. In 1986, the United Nations has decided to stop all commercial killing of whales.
15
Now, only a few countries still keep on whaling, despite the agreement to stop killing. Do you know which country is the most notorious for this? And why do they insist on whaling?
16
Yes, the Japanese still use science research as a ground for whaling. Actually they kill whales for the meat —the Japanese see whale meat as a kind of delicacy!
17
IT’S NOT NECESSARY TO KILL WHALES. IF YOU HOPE THE WONDERFUL ANIMALS TO KEEP LIVING IN THE FUTURE, PLEASE GIVE THEM A HAND!

Brainstorming is a way of coming up with ideas by using free association. Here is how it works: 1. Write down a topic at the top of a sheet of paper. 2. List every idea about the topic that comes to your mind. 3. Don’t stop to judge any of the ideas—you can do that later. 4. Keep going until you run out of ideas.
26
Now it’s time to brainstorm! Brainstorm to find and list ideas about one of the topics listed below.
