3 Tennessee’s State Flag  Tennessee became a state in 1796.

4 What is Tennessee like?  Tennessee made up of forests, cities, plains, and a little bit of mountains.  It’s natural resources include: limestone, coal, oil, natural gas, timber, excellent soil for crops, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, tobacco, cotton, squash, peppers.  Some of the industry and farming include: zinc, aluminum, hydroelectric power, tobacco, and cotton.

5 Famous People from Tennessee  Dolly Parton is a famous singer from Tennessee. She started Dollywood and is famous for her country music.  Davy Crockett is a famous frontiersman from Tennessee. He served under Andrew Jackson in the war of 1812.  Sequoyah was a Cherokee leader who made up the Cherokee writing system.

6 Wars of Tennessee  The war of 1812 was defining period for Tennessee. It is also known as the ‘Creek War’.  The Civil War was fought in 1861-1865. It was mainly fought in Nashville.  The Revolutionary War was fought in 1775- 1783. It was led by John Sevier.

7 The History of Tennessee  In 1796 Tennessee became the 16 th State to the USA.  In 1807 Kingston is capitol for one day.  In 1812 Tennessee’s nickname becomes “The Volunteer State”.

8 Climate in Tennessee  Tennessee’s climate is hot and cold  In spring, it is 47°F to 70°F.  In summer, it is 65°F to 85°F.  In fall, it is 49°F to 71°F.  In winter, it is 32°F to 49°F.
