Tennessee’s State Flag Tennessee became a state in 1796.

What is Tennessee like? Tennessee made up of forests, cities, plains, and a little bit of mountains. It’s natural resources include: limestone, coal, oil, natural gas, timber, excellent soil for crops, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, tobacco, cotton, squash, peppers. Some of the industry and farming include: zinc, aluminum, hydroelectric power, tobacco, and cotton.

Famous People from Tennessee Dolly Parton is a famous singer from Tennessee. She started Dollywood and is famous for her country music. Davy Crockett is a famous frontiersman from Tennessee. He served under Andrew Jackson in the war of 1812. Sequoyah was a Cherokee leader who made up the Cherokee writing system.

Wars of Tennessee The war of 1812 was defining period for Tennessee. It is also known as the ‘Creek War’. The Civil War was fought in 1861-1865. It was mainly fought in Nashville. The Revolutionary War was fought in 1775- 1783. It was led by John Sevier.

The History of Tennessee In 1796 Tennessee became the 16 th State to the USA. In 1807 Kingston is capitol for one day. In 1812 Tennessee’s nickname becomes “The Volunteer State”.

Climate in Tennessee Tennessee’s climate is hot and cold In spring, it is 47°F to 70°F. In summer, it is 65°F to 85°F. In fall, it is 49°F to 71°F. In winter, it is 32°F to 49°F.
