Early Rome The first Romans were Latins and Estruscans. Etruscans came to take over the Latins and created the city of Rome. The poor people didn’t like the way the Etruscan King ran things so they made him leave and created a republic and began to make a strong army. Rome had a great area, not right on the sea, it has the barrier of the Alps mountains.

The Punic Wars Fought between Rome (Europe) and Carthage (Africa) Rome wanted to control all of the Mediterranean The First Punic War was fought over Sicily (Rome won) The Second Punic War started with Hannibal from Carthage did a surprise attack on Rome (Rome won and really weakened Carthage) Third Punic War, Rome attacked Carthage by water and after 3 years completely destroyed and took over Carthage. (Rome wins again!)

Punic War Summary Effects of the Punic Wars Rome’s army became larger and became the most powerful in all of the Mediterranean Sea. The Roman social structure completely changed! Rome became the most dominating power in the area The Roman Empire got started and the Roman Republic was kicked out Romans got very rich from the slaves that worked on their large amounts of land Rome got rich!!! The economy was even better!!!
