FRANCE
3
France and Spain are neighbours each other with a long border across the Pyrenees.
4
Pyrénées, is a range of mountains that forms a natural border between France and Spain. It separates the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extends for about 491 km from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean.
5
The history of Spanish–French relations is complicated by the political heritage of the two countries, but nowadays Spain enjoys very special relations with France, a friendly country with which we share a close cooperation. Battle of Salamanca - 22 July 1812, etched by J. Clarke, coloured by M. Dubourg. Spanish War of Independence against Napoleon Bonaparte.
6
Cooperation between France and Spain is displaying a dynamism that is manifested daily through exchanges in the areas of education, language and culture. The French cultural network in Spain is made up by 5 French Institutes and 21 Alliances Françaises and enrolls over 20.000 students. About 9,500 teachers teach French (in primary and secondary schools) to 1.200.000 Spanish students (16.2 percent). Although it is the second modern language taught, French language position remains fragile because learning a second modern European language is optional in Spain.
