1. Introduction There are 15 TEIs, are divided into six kinds of TEI Six kinds of TEI 5 TTCs3 TTSs Physical Education TTS 2 Monk Colleges Art Education TTS 3 FOE producing upper secondary school teachers producing secondary teachers for Monk schools producing preschool, primary and lower secondary school teachers Producing physical education teachers producing art education teachers producing preschool and primary school teachers Menu

To prepare the SMATT project, we started to plan in 1999, and then started to train teachers in 2000 and 2001 Resource persons: Naruto University of Education and other universities from Japan, NUOL and DTT from Laos Participants: PA, RIES and TTCs/TTSs Menu 2. SMATT Report

50 participants had been trained in Japan from 2002 to 2006 The SMATT project actually started in June 2004 and will be finished in June 2008 Main objective of the project is to improve science and mathematics teachers of Lao PDR in teaching method, focusing on the teachers in the 8 TTCs/TTSs Menu 2. School Workshop Dissemination Activity (Supported 22 school workshops) JICA supports materials (Kip 23,238,000). TEIs support coffee-break and sometime allowance for participants Target: student teachers (=pre-service teacher training) → regional school teachers (= In- service Teacher Training) Menu 2. SMATT Seminar In 2007, practice lesson in Vientiane province was presented in Savannakhet TTC by 10 presenters (fifth cohort, training in Japan) Participants: 171 science and mathematics teachers from 8 TEIs Result presentation in the seminar was international academy style seminar Menu 2. Mathematics and Science Education Development Plan in Laos TEI, University, RIES, and General School Linkage SMATT focuses on Teaching Method in TEIs, June 2004- June 2008, MOE- JICA) SMATT Extension in Primary and Secondary Schools is currently being piloted at some schools in Southern Part (JICA) Study Tour Quality Assurance (QA) is currently being piloted in TEIs TEMIS beneficiary in Science and Mathematics forum BESDP (Sciences Lab & Computer will be provided to TEIs and Secondary Schools) ICT Pedagogy Integration is currently being piloted in three TEIs and schools Knowledge and Skills in Mathematics & Science Science and Mathematics Forum Development of new topic based on SMATT model School WS (JICA will support materials after SMATT) Menu
