Parrots “Parrot" is a broad term that can refer to any of several hundred subspecies including but not limited to amazons, macaws, lories, parrotlets, conures and parakeets

Parakeets Parakeets originated from Australia, New Zealand, Central America, South America; Argentina Parakeets refer to the smaller members of the parrot family Parakeets are small- to medium-sized

Brooklyn Parrots Monk Parakeets known as either Quaker Parrots or as Monk Parakeets They are officially classified as: Myiopsitta Monachus. The monk parakeets were considered to be an agricultural pest in South America

Weight ranges from 85-150 grams Approximately 11 inches long. They are green, with some gray on their forehead, cheeks, throat and chest.

Diet consists of plant buds, seeds, nuts, leaves, fruit Parrots are generally monogamous animals Territorial during mating season The Monk parakeet shakes and quakes, as if doing some weird dance move when it comes time to mate

Between the 1960s and 1970s monk parrotkeets were imported into the US Today the Monk Parakeets have been spotted in Long Island New Jersey, Brooklyn, including: Greenwood Cemetery, Marine Park, Bensonhurst, and Bay Ridge. Monk Parakeets can be spotted on Brooklyn College Campus
