2 What? Why? How?  Carnivorous plants are plants that can eat insects and/or small animals  They get their energy the same way the other plants do…. Photosynthesis  They eat insects and other small animals because they live in places where the soil is low in nutrients from their “PREY”  As you can see some Carnivorous Plants have a sticky substance that catches flies on their leaves.  Others drown the insects in a pitcher shape that is part of plant. eat insects and/or small animals.

3 Venus fly trap(Dionaea)  It is the most commonly known carnivorous plants  The leaf closes when the tiny hairs inside the leaf are touched  The picture (right) shows a leaf with an unusual double trap.( it is the only leaf known to have to grown like that)

4 Pitfall Traps (Pitcher Plant) The pitcher plant is basically a slippery leaf wrapped into a tube shape that contains a pool of digestive enzymes at the bottom

5 Bladder traps(Bladder wort) The Bladderwort is like an under water Venus Fly Trap. The bladders suck in and trap water insects.
