They are Inuit, First Nations and Metis. These people are the first groups to live in Canada. Together, they are called Aboriginal*. Inuit, First Nation and Metis can’t be called the same name because they have different languages and cultures. Who are the first people in Canada? *aboriginal – means indigenous.

Who are Inuit people? The Inuit are the aboriginal* inhabitants of the North American Arctic, from the Bering Strait to East Greenland,a distance of over 6000 kilometers. As well as Arctic Canada, Inuit also live in northern Alaska and Greenland, and have close relatives in Russia. They are united by a common cultural heritage and a common language. Until recently, outsiders called the Inuit "Eskimo." Now they prefer their own term, "Inuit," meaning simply"people." There are about 40,000 Inuit in Canada. *aboriginal – means indigenous.* indigenous- means originating where it is found.

This is some Inuit clothing that is for men and women. This clothing is for the Arctic because it is made of fur and it keeps people warm.

Canada’s first nations people http://www.ainc-inac.gc.ca/pr/info/tln_e.html First Nation of Canada used to be called Indians. Although the term First Nation is widely used no legal definition of it exists. Among it uses the term First Nation people refers to the Indian of Canada both Status and non Status. Some Indian peoples have also adopted the term of First Nation to replace the word band in the name of their community.

This canoe is made out of cedar wood. The boxes are made out of cedar wood too and the boxes are used for food.

The Metis are mix Blooded people, that joins the two world.The old world (Europeans) and the new world (North American Indians, creating a totally new nations or a race of people. They have their own criteria necessary to be recognized as a distinct nation of people from food, clothing, flag, history, political movement. All the criteria and more were met by the Metis.
