Whole Class Activity For the paragraph below, replace all the underlined words with more descriptive synonyms. The big helicopter turned to make its final approach. Over the field its engines roared. Suddenly all became quiet as the the helicopter rotors stopped. As part of the scared ground crew, I looked up in fear.

Independent Activity 1. Edit the paragraph below so that it includes stronger, more descriptive language (use adjectives and adverbs). 2. Write an additional descriptive paragraph to tell what happens next. The firefighter came out of the house. He stopped to take a breath but smoke filled the air. As he walked to the truck, a sound coming from the flames made him stop. He realized that a person was still inside.
