2 The Better Answer Organizer Prompt: How did Little Red Riding Hood know the character in the bed was not her grandmother? Restatement Gist Answer Body of Details Conclusion Reread Reread Little Red Riding Hood knew the character in the bed was not her grandmother because that character did not look or sound like her grandmother. Red Riding Hood noticed that his voice was gruff and deep, not like her grandmother’s. Also, that character in the bed had very large eyes and ears, unlike her grandmother’s. But most important was what she noticed about his teeth. They were huge! That is how Little Red Riding Hood knew that the character in the bed was not her grandmother — and it’s a good thing she noticed!

3 Each MAJOR DETAIL in a single-paragraph sandwich becomes an INTRODUCTION in a multiple-paragraph sandwich

4 Little Red Riding Hood knew the character in the bed was not her grandmother. He did not look or sound like her grandmother. Let me explain some of the characteristics that made the character different from Grandmother. First, Red Riding Hood noticed that his voice was gruff and deep, not like her grandmother’s. He spoke in a way that made the child think her grandmother was ill. That’s why he sounded different. Also, that character in the bed had very large eyes and ears, unlike her grandmother’s. Grandmother’s eyes were small, but the character in the bed had large scary eyes. But that isn’t all. His ears were huge, not one bit like human ears. Those scary eyes and ears would make a child want to run. But most important was what she noticed about his teeth. They were huge! Grandmother has little teeth, like everyone else’s. But this character’s teeth looked like they could have bitten someone’s head off. It’s lucky that Red Riding Hood noticed or it may have been HER head! This is how Little Red Riding Hood knew that the character in the bed was not her grandmother—and it’s a good thing she noticed! Otherwise, this story would have had a very different ending. Super Sandwich Prompt: How did Little Red Riding Hood know the character in the bed was not her grandmother?

7 The Better Answer Organizer Prompt: Why were the three bears so upset when they got home from their walk? Restatement Gist Answer Body of Details Conclusion Reread Reread The three bears were upset when they got home because their house was not like they left it. To begin with, the bears noticed that someone had been eating their porridge. Next they discovered that someone had broken Baby Bear’s chair. Furthermore, their beds were messed up. Most important, however, was that there was a little girl IN one of the beds! As a result of all that confusion the three bears were very upset.
