Vv 23b-25: four actions: 1.Taking the Bread and Cup 2.Thanksgiving 3.Breaking the Bread 4.Giving the Bread and Cup Nothing is specified about the kind of bread and cup. Frequency of the Lord’s Supper.

“Do this in remembrance of me.” 1 Corinthians 11: 25 We focus the mind on Jesus and especially His death on the cross “Remember” comes from two words “re” and “member.”

Article XVIII – Of the Lord’s Supper: “[those] … with faith receive the same, the bread which we break is a partaking of the body of Christ; and likewise the cup of blessing is a partaking of the blood of Christ.”

Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar? 1 Corinthians 10:16-18

When believers eat the bread and drink the cup physically we do another kind of eating and drinking: spiritually. “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” John. 6:53 The relationships between the preaching of the Word of God and the partaking of the Lord’s Supper.

Paul closes with a warning in 1 Corinthians 11 that we receive the Lord’s Supper with the sense of its weightiness.
