2 Global Affairs Office Outgoing Exchange Grant (OEG)

3 What is OEG?  Stands for O utgoing E xchange G rant  Set up in 2011  Operated by G lobal A ffairs O ffice (GAO)  A Committee has been set up for overseeing the implementation of OEG, which comprises of academic and administrative representatives from different faculties

4 Purposes of OEG  Promoting mobility of students  Enriching students’ international exposure and experience  Encouraging students with good academic standing  Subsidizing students with financial needs

5 Eligibility  Participate in a regular credit-bearing exchange programme at undergraduate level that is initiated or planned by UM at either University-level or Faculty-level  Minimum CGPA of NOT less than 2.50  CANNOT receive double subsidy for exchange at the same time, including subsidy from UM or outside entities

6 Types of Grant  Applicants can choose 1 of the 3 types, they are:  Type 1 - Financial Neediness  Type 2 - Academic Standing  Type 3 - Special Recommended Exchange Programmes

8 List of Special Recommended Exchange Programmes (For Type 3)  Faculty of Business Administration (2 quotas)  University of Southern Denmark (1 quota)  Aalto University School of Economics (1 quota)  Faculty of Education (2 quotas)  National Taiwan Normal University/ National Taipei University of Education  Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (2 quotas)  Catholic University of Portugal  Faculty of Science and Technology (2 quotas)  Universidade Regional de Blumenau/ National Chi Nan University/ National Chung Hsing University/ National Chiao Tung University  Global Affairs Office (2 quotas)  University of Brasilia/ Shaanxi Normal University/ Wuhan University/ Xian Jiaotong University

9 Funding Expenses of OEG  Round-trip air ticket and/or other modes of transportation between Macao/ Hong Kong/ home city and the host university on arrival and departure dates  Medical/ health/ travel insurance  Accommodation during exchange  Other mandatory fees and charges imposed by host university

10  Maximum amount of Grant (1 Semester) will vary according to destination countries or regions as per the table shown below: * Table of max. amount of grant provided for each zone for one semester

11 Grant Allocation and Penalty System Exceptional case will be considered by the Outgoing Exchange Grant Committee on individual basis Academic AchievementGrant Allocation Applicants successfully achieve at least 2/3 of full credit equivalence of Host University Receive full amount of Grant Applicants achieve at least 1/3 but less than 2/3 of full credit equivalence of Host University Receive 50% of the amount of Grant Applicants fail to achieve 1/3 of full credit equivalence of Host University Will not be subsidized Withdrawal before/ during exchange period Will not be subsidized

16 G lobal A ffairs O ffice  Roles of GAO in student exchange:  Act as the hosting office of some of the university-wide exchange and international programmes;  Promote all university-wide exchange and international programmes in UM;  Provide students with source and support to international opportunity;  Encourage mobility of students;  Oversee the implementation of the student exchange programmes in UM.

20 Eligibility Requirements for Mainland China Exchange  Students who are permanent Macao residents or non-Chinese residents will be the priority  Mainland Chinese students who are Macao ID holders but not permanent Macao residents will have a lower priority  Mainland Chinese students who are not Macao ID holders will have the lowest priority  Minimum CGPA 2.50 or above  Interview is required

21 Application Procedures  Step 1: Look for your desired exchange programmes and its application deadline  Step 2: Consult your programme coordinator about all academic related issues, e.g. course selection, credit transferability and academic advice  Step 3: Download and complete application form:  http://www.umac.mo/gao/exchangeatum_application.html  Step 4: Submit your application to GAO before application deadline  Step 5: Apply for Outgoing Exchange Grant:  http://www.umac.mo/gao/oeg_apply.html

23 The University of California, Berkeley  Encourage the exchange of UM master students.  At UC Berkeley, the student will obtain the status of Visiting Student Researcher in the Visiting Student Researcher and Post Doctoral Affairs Program.  The student will audit classes at Berkeley and may take up to four courses per semester at Berkeley.  The student will be responsible for the financial obligations, such as, audit fee, application fee, visa, accommodation, transportation and living expenses, etc.  Students with financial difficulty should raise their concern to the Faculty's General Office Visiting Student Researcher and Post Doctoral Affairs Program

24 The University of California, Berkeley  Nomination: February 2013 (With Dean’s endorsement)  GAO only accepts applications in the form of recommendation by the Dean of Faculty  Application: March 2013  Duration: 1 Semester / 1 Year  The academic year normally begins at the last week of August in Berkeley and ends at the last week in May in the following year Visiting Student Researcher and Post Doctoral Affairs Program
