Welsh Artists.... Helen Elliott Augustus John Kyffin Williams

Augustus John (1878-1961) is known for his portraits……….. …. and self-portraits Augustus Edwin John (4 January 1878 – 31 October 1961) was a Welsh painter and etcher. For a short time around 1910, he was an important exponent of Post Impressionism the United Kingdom. Augustus was celebrated for his figure drawings, and then for a new technique of oil sketching. His work was compared with that of Gaugin and Matisse. He developed a style of portraiture that was imaginative and often extravagant.

Sir John "Kyffin" Williams (9 May 1918 – 1 September 2006) was a Welsh landscape painter who lived at Llanfairpwll on the Island of Angelsey. Kyffin Williams was educated on the island before joining the 6th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers in 1937. After he failed a British Army Medical in 1941,his doctor advised him to take up art. After leaving the army he taught art in Highgate School, London from 1941- 1973 Kyffin Williams died on 1 September 2006, aged 88, at a nursing home in Anglesey
